Maureen Dowd on Obama
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Barack Obama must continue to grovel to Hillary Clinton’s dead-enders, some of whom mutter darkly that they will not only not vote for him, they will never vote for a man again. |

Republicanism was instilled in her from an early age. Well, I grew up in Oregon and my parents were rabid Republicans. I've been a Republican all of my life, until Obama came along and I said, "this is it". He's a very unusual person, and of course the parties have changed too. I never just voted for somebody because he was Republican or Democratic. I changed my voter registration from Republican to Democratic, and that was surprising to me after having been a Republican for a lifetime. I wouldn't vote for John McCain if he was the only person on the ballot. |

Back in January, I argued that the outcome of the Democratic nomination hinged on one question: To what extent can Barack Obama reassure primary and caucus voters that he is ready to be their president? Now, nearly five months later, the answer may determine the outcome of the general election.
